NursePreneurs provides tips and resources for any nurse who wants to start a business in the medical field. We help nurses who want to start as coaches, consultants, concierge nurses, course creators, and clinic owners.
I had a dream of becoming a nurse. At first, I was over the moon to make my real-life fantasy come true. Then, like many nurses, I ended up working about 60-80 hours a week, but only getting paid for 40. Of course, I volunteered for more responsibilities so the place “wouldn’t fall apart.” In my mind, I was indispensable. But after a falling out with my attending, I started to see things differently.
Fast forward to today, I help nurses start and grow businesses related to IV Hydration, Chronic Care, Concierge nursing, med spa, research consultants, and content writing.

Nurse as in RN?
Thank you Linda-Jo.. we need to know our worth
Do you have to report to the IRS?
I want to blend the career of a safety manager and nurse administrator who goes through nursing homes and coaches staff. Remind them what delegation means and why it’s there. To remind them that an acute change isn’t always a behavior, to remind them not to talk to the patients in a way that make them fear their home, to remind them the patients aren’t their burden, and at the end of the day they, not the patient, get to go home. The nursing homes are so full of uneducated, undertrained, apathetic people that it’s a horror show. Thinking of these people who have no one who will put their personal shit aside long enough to do what benefits the resident and make sure that they have a quality of life. I got fired for being too proactive. They didn’t like an ER nurse stirring their pot of death soup and picking out the pieces that could be saved and attended to. They don’t like the RN delegating because everyone gets their feelings hurt or feels stupid to be told what to do within their scope of practice. I was trained by nurses who didn’t ask and didn’t give a fuck about my feelings, they simply gave me a look and I knew. Now the woke has taken over and a bunch of 30 Year old autistic divergent lpn and nurse aides run the show, and I’m sick of it. Florence Nightingale would be slapping people left and right with her lamp. Not to mention, a DON who asks me if she looks like someone who would know the answers to my questions when I need help, forgetting she’s the one nurse above me beyond NP. lol. She’s my boss. They are too busy covering up shit that I’m uncovering and got told my charting ensues chaos and told me not to chart crazy things--I work on the psych ward so that makes charting difficult. A man who touches a woman on their boob is simply touching the outside of their shirt. I had to remind the women telling me to chart this nonsense that their boobs are under the shirt….its dangerous. And I don’t have the power to make any changes. Especially now that they don’t want me back. How can I educate myself into a Nurse Titan and go deal with this nonsense? No one gets to go from nurse aide to rn because They’ve been an aide for 30 years. That’s what I was told. If a person is there long enough they have status over me despite title. My ass. These people with one or two years experience talking about being diagnosed with autism at 28 who won’t be bossed around by anyone and they’re sure to mention especially not they’re boss, then want to mention that no advanced degree is beyond them deserves a good punch to the throat. I don’t wear RN on my badge because I’m some asshole there to make your life hell, but I am someone who put the time in from aid to lpn to rn with 18 years experience as traveler in multiple fields and I’m more than happen to take anyone under my wing teach and provide a routine and and a plan and help any coworker understand the nuances of nursing and the reason for delegation between rn, lpn, and the aid. Scope of practice. Yada yada. Be the example of good leadership because I’ve grown into more of a leader whose independent, leads a group, and is lead by people above me. I also am delegated to and accept it; even if the person is dishearteningly younger than me. I can challenge their orders in a healthy, educational way without losing my shit and needing trauma counseling for it. It’s not disrespect to question orders it’s disrespect to refuse to do them because you are older or more autistic or not to be bossed around…these people need fired on the spot. This is interdisciplinary team work….no nurse is an island and there is only one head chef, and yes, they are gonna be better, smarter, and wiser than you--but i, and their degree is above yours, tough shit. Your 30 years as an aid, is respected and trust me no good nurse refuses to hear and implement your ideas, but it’ll never make you a nurse by any standard, and so you’ll have to listen to the 18 yr old lpn when he delegates a tasks that he can’t take care of bc what he has to do is something your scope of practice won’t allow. Otherwise, quit. You’ll also need to accept that yea you’re a hard headed person who doesn’t get told what to do but when your 38 year old RN has to remind you that call lights are going off and that patients come before charting, don’t bring up the fact that I could be answering it. I know I could be, but it’s you who should be. Gotta bring back severe bitches and tiered leadership. Otherwise. It’s lord of the flies and my swatter has electricity. I come from a place of severe respect. I hate what’s happened to respect in general. I respect my coworkers, all of them, but expect them to know their place during my 12 hour shift and remember who they’re here to work for --the residents. I can assess with casual and identify immediately acute encephalitis vs behavior; i can tell you based on the skin tone whether it: bp or sugar, late sign or early; I can teach nurse aides what left side neglect is in a patient with a stroke who they think is being a bitch because she only looks to the right. What!? I teach them encephalopathy isn’t the same as MRDD or self-diagnosed autism; but the 16 year old aids can’t be bothered with work that takes them away from they’re personal lives and their phones at the nurses stations. That being said I know burnt out RNs who’d rather let someone die of a stroke vs paperwork. And I swear, if I ever find the person responsible for “liberal” med passes imma gonna do the throat punch thing. I got written up for practicing medicine when I didn’t give a 0800 and 1200 Ativan together because they were running too close together in time. Parameters and nurse judgement are considered practicing medicine. I can’t refuse to give a late-overlapping pill, can’t refuse it if the bp is too low, and can’t hold the sleeping pill if the patient is already asleep. I have to page a doctor first and get their ok. When in the past a doctor would do all but kill you for such a thing. And if I don’t feel safe giving it I can refuse anyway and the doctor can do it. It’s not practicing medicine to hold something they’ll harm a patient. It’s called common sense and good judgement. I’ll even let the doc know. But getting in trouble for not doubling up on narcs is weird; also, letting a confused patient refuse a life vest is something you can just char5--why we have patient with a life vest - nd days away from a AICD in an unmonitored unit is weird and somehow less of a concern than not doubling up on narcs. and don’t tell doctor non nurse administrator asked me how dumb I could be, and so I grabbed the outside of her shirt where her breast was to let her know I’m as stupid as you give me permission to be. So many people at that nursing home are done for. Who besides the BON do I contact to look into a place? I am not nurse of the year, but experience and time has taught me well. The choice to remain objective and not pre judgemental based on report is a choice to give every patient their blank slate for me to see what I must and do what I must. I’m not always great. I honestly dont like the work, but I like the people and want them to thrive. Both residents and workers. When I was younger I accused people of crying wolf until one day they baby howled and what an unforgettable howl it was. You won’t make up vital signs on my shift, you won’t ever take chest pain and suicide threats as a joke, and I you’ll always choose the patient over the machine as well as put them before charting. You’re not my equal when we work together and are different tiers. You’re not my equal if you’re an RN whose nurse aides come and get me in secret to assess someone they know is dying whom you can’t be bothered with. Equality and liberal shit do not belong in some areas of life where the lives of others is concerned. Give a three yr old LPN and 18 yr old RN a dying patient and see who runs the show and who runs from it. We can’t have equality all be on the same level. These kids can boss bosses around but bosses get fired when laying down the law. Bad move. Poor Grammies and gramps who don’t get the respect they deserve because elders don’t get the respect of their 13 yr old equals. That isn’t nursing. I have a giant soapbox on this topic and lack the grammatical skills or writing skills to be as poignant as I’d like to be. Also, I realize some words are missing while some are mashed up. This is a rant, not a manifesto. lol. I will try for the manifesto. Also, I’m primary care. I do everything I can before I go making some aides life hell by asking for boost that I can’t physically do by myself. I get told no bc six showers need done--that logic alone is idiocy *punch to the throat!*

Registered nurse in Austin TX here. Do i need a business location starting out or can i start out just being mobile??
Doctor Harris!!!! You are my hero since my days as you student a Jeff.
Thank you for referencing male dominated fields because too often, we under sell ourselves. Great job, ladies
Average Med Spa owner makes 300 to 400k, but can even make millions if they hire a very large staff or open up multiple locations. Supposedly a day spa can be started with 10k, but Med Spas require at least 20k start up because the equipment is more expensive.
This was extremely valuable information!
Do I need an LLC or a Professional Corporation
can i start a medspa as a nurse by myself? or do i need to partner up with a physician ?
LPN or RN can become a Nurse Esthetician in most states by working at a dermatologist office or Med Spa for a few months or so and learning all the med spa treatments and then getting certificates in all the med spa treatments and then you can both own a Med Spa and work as a Nurse Esthetician instead of paying someone else. You make also need to take some business classes, if you haven't already, in order to know how to run your own business. There are a few states such as California, Texas, New York that require Nurse Estheticians to be physicians and Nurse Practitioners, but most don't. When I'm done with my esthetics program, I plan to get my Associates in Business Administration and then just one more year in school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and eventually start my Med Spa in Tennessee!
Can I do LNC with a LVN/LPN? As a LNC, is one ever called to testify in the court proceedings as an expert witness? Or is the work simply analyzing the case for attorney to better understand medical records/terminology and causation ?
